The Red 8Pre features four Focusrite's digitally-controlled 'Air' Red Evolution mic preamps. The Red 8Pre can be simply carried and recorded with the same interface at the desired location with a Thunderbolt connection, and also in the studio with Pro Tools | HDX or Pro Tools | It allows mixingdown by connecting to HD Native systems.

Thanks to Host Mode Pro Tools | Switching between HD and any Thunderbolt-connected DAW is easy. Its combination of low-latency conversion and driver technology enables real-time mixing on the DAW using your own native plug-ins. Unlike many interfaces, the Red 8Pre features simultaneous mini-DigiLink and Thunderbolt 2 connections as standard. In this way, there is no need to purchase an additional optional card to use it with a different DAW.
