Tascam DR-40X 4-Channel Voice Recorder and USB Audio Interface

The DR-40X is a versatile four-track audio recorder for music, podcasting, cinema and other applications that require high-quality sound. Based on the very successful Tascam DR-40, this recorder adds many new functions to its extensive feature set.

A pair of cardioid condenser microphones handles high sound pressure levels and can be adjusted in the AB or XY direction for an extra clear reproduction with a wide stereo field or low phase displacement between both channels. Users can use their own microphones or line-level sources from mixers or FOH console via dual Neutrik XLR/TRS combo jacks that support both microphone level and +4 dBu line level.

The mic preamps pack 48 volts of phantom power and ample gain to capture everything from small whispers to loud sounds. Using the stereo built-in microphones, you can capture the ambient sound of the listener while recording directly from an external console, ideal for live performances. The DR-40X's layout has been revamped to make one-thumb operation quick and easy. Operations such as recording, adjusting levels, deleting bad shots and adding marks are just a click of a button. Menus are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese.

Three different auto level modes (Limiter, Peak Reduction, Auto Level) can help prevent accidental distortion while recording. You can apply one of six reverb effects to the input or output signal, and the Overdub feature allows sounds or instruments to be added to existing audio files. The new Dictation Mode lets you jump back and forth in preset increments while playing a file. It can be combined with speed control and a special dictation EQ, for example, useful for writing minute records, for example.
